You Are What You Think – part 1

Written By Millen Livis

“Consciousness precedes manifestation.” ~ Constance Arnold

If you look at your immediate family members, friends and coworkers, they all have very different lives and levels of success. Have you ever wondered why that is? Some are happy and peaceful, embody gratitude, generosity and acceptance; others are in a continuous state of bitterness, envy and self-comparison and spend most of their time in a ‘victim-ville.’

It is especially interesting to observe how some ‘promising’ folks end up having ordinary lives and others, who were born with unimaginable physical or other challenges, become real heroes! Often siblings from the same family, who have similarly equal opportunities, end up having such different lives!

I am convinced that each of us has a unique path to walk and lessons to learn. Some are meant to be generals, others educators, musicians and artists. That being said, I believe that there is a common denominator that can be one of the most accurate predictors of success in life.

It’s not your intellect or education; it’s not your skills, your looks or the size of your bank account. These factors do play a role; however, it is your belief system that plays the most important role in your journey toward a happy and successful life. It is what you think about most of the time with regards to yourself and your potential, your challenges, abilities and strengths. It is what you think is possible for you…. It is truly amazing how your unconscious beliefs get manifested in your life!

Most people are unaware of how many limiting beliefs they hold in their subconscious mind and how these core beliefs sabotage their lives. These ‘mental weeds’, or unquestioned/unexamined limiting beliefs, are formed over many years starting from childhood.

In the process of living, every person experiences challenging circumstances, disappointments, heartbreaks and despair. However, some people still manage to lead joyful and meaningful lives. Others, in the meantime, feel unlucky, bitter and discontent throughout their lives.

The major difference is the way you think about yourself, your possibilities and opportunities. Your way of thinking is the most important factor that determines your success in life, both personal and professional.

You must become consciously aware of your limiting beliefs and develop a committed daily practice to replace them with supportive and inspiring beliefs. It is what you do DAILY, not just once in a while, that will make the difference. You need to develop a daily practice to shift your habitual way of thinking!

Life Happens to All

Have you ever had a time in your life when everything seemed to be falling apart, perhaps at the same time, despite your best efforts and intentions? Did you feel trapped, lost and hopeless? You are not alone.

Life happens to all of us. Financial ruins, loss of loved ones, divorce, loss of jobs, betrayal.… Yet what determines the quality of your life is what you choose to do when you realize that you chose the wrong career or made a bad investment or agreed to partner with the wrong person. I know firsthand that the “fog of fear” feels very real and often inhibits your ability to see the rainbow beyond the cloud of anxiety.

That is why it is very important during these ‘rough patches’ to respect your physical and emotional needs and give yourself enough space to rest, to take care of your body and soul and ask for help if needed. Self-care is super important when you face challenging and uncertain circumstances. You need to be able to weather the storm of life. As difficult as it is to believe, I assure you that the storm will pass and you will have your day of celebration!

Take care of yourself and when you feel the need for a change, act on it! You must find the tools, strength and support to get yourself back into the driver’s seat. You must choose yourself in order to steer toward your deliberate destination, toward the grand vision for your life. The best place to start is by adjusting the way you think about yourself and your life.

Next week we’ll go deeper into specifics on releasing and replacing limiting beliefs.

  1. Yes yes yes , we all are what we think we are and we can change that . just watched a movie thatshoed you can be anything you can imagine The Gifted Hand xxoo

    1. Yes, Suzie, we CAN change the way we think! and it all starts with awareness of our power and true desire to succeed. Thank you for contributing to this conversation!

  2. Enjoyed your article! The most important stories we tell are the stories we tell to ourselves about ourselves and, for better or worse, few of those tales are based on reality. One of my favorite motivational speakers is W. Mitchell and he always says “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do about it.” and I’ve taken that to heart in my own life. Thanks for the inspiration!
